Sweden, Riding Icelandic Horses in Roslagen

You will find this gem in beautiful Roslagen. Jenny and Hreggvidur (Hreggi), both multiple Swedish champions and successful national team riders, are big names in the Icelandic Horse world. Jenny is one of only four certified Icelandic Horse riding instructors in Sweden. They are both professionals with a passion for Icelandic horses and taking care of you as a guest.

Here you can choose between a training weekend, weekly rides or a long weekend ride.

Amid the beautiful Uppland scenery, Jenny and Hreggi discovered this horse farm 13 years ago and have carefully restored it and converted it into a beautiful center for Icelandic Horses. In addition to the newly renovated farmhouse, there are guesthouses, a conference hall for 20 people and a stable with 40 stalls, pastures, an oval track and endless trails. They also have employed instructors who conduct lessons and lead rides. You are treated to great meals, and at times you may even be served a special Icelandic dinner in the vaulted cellar.

Sweden, Roslagen - Long Weekend Training Camp

Sweden, Roslagen - Long Weekend Training Camp

This is perfect for those people who want to develop their riding and relax, dine and socialize with like minded people. You have two sessions on Friday and Saturday and a final ride on Sunday morning. It includes practical instruction interspersed with theory and takes place on the oval track, in the paddock or the small indoor riding arena. You can bring your own horse or ride on one of the highly trained riding school horses.

Horses

Well trained, confident Icelandic horses. In total there are about 40 horses, of which twenty are used for trail riding. The horses are very well kept and in good physical condition. For the more experienced rider, there might also be an opportunity to try any one of the other horses at the equestrian center.

Sweden, Roslagen - Icelandic long weekend

Sweden, Roslagen - Icelandic long weekend

This long weekend has a strong Icelandic flavor, with both rides and lessons on the fine Icelandic Horses. A dip in the "Heitta pot", an Icelandic hot tub at 39C (102 F), is perfect after a Fall or Spring ride. Sufficiently warmed, you are invited to an Icelandic dinner in the vaulted cellar cooked with genuine Icelandic ingredients. You get a real chance to sample the best of what Iceland has to offer!

The weekend's program (flexible, subject to changes) may look like this:

The first evening (Thursday) you eat a welcome dinner in the dining room. If it is warm, you sit out on the veranda overlooking the horse pastures.

After a buffet breakfast on Friday morning, there will be a presentation of the weekend's program and testing of horses. After lunch, you head off on a lovely ride through the Roslagen scenery, or - if you are not a very experienced rider - you may instead receive a riding lesson on the arena or oval track.

You take care of "your" horse during your stay, including brushing, saddling, etc.

After riding, it can be nice to have a relaxing dip in the "Heitta pot" before dinner.

On Saturday, you have a trail ride with a break for a picnic lunch (if the weather is not cooperating, you will have two lessons with lunch at the center between sessions).

On one evening, you may get to enjoy a special Icelandic dinner in the vaulted cellar.

Sunday: another ride after breakfast - ride or lesson - before this glorious weekend ends with coffee and sandwiches and then departure around 1.00pm

Sweden, Roslagen - Summer Ride

At the end of the week, you ride off on a full day trail ride staying overnight at Gimo Manor, one of Sweden's most beautiful manor houses from the eighteenth century.

Examples of a weekly schedule (subject to change due to local circumstances):

The first evening (Sunday) you eat a welcome dinner in the dining room or outside on the veranda overlooking the horse pastures.

After breakfast on Monday morning, there will be a presentation of the week's program and testing of horses. After lunch, you head off on a lovely ride through beautiful Roslagen. After riding, you can enjoy a relaxing bath in the "Heitta pot" before dinner.

Friday morning: you start the ride to Gimo manor where you will stay overnight. Before you get to Gimo, you stop at a small lake where you and the horses can have a refreshing dip. You ride at different speeds along fields and meadows on gravel and forest roads that are well suited to ‘Tolt’. Once in Gimo, you leave the horses and check into your rooms. There is time for a refreshing dip in Gimo pond and a soothing sauna before a tasty dinner.

Saturday: Departure after breakfast.

You take care of "your" horse during your stay, including brushing, saddling, etc.

Accommodation

You stay in a twin rooms upstairs in the guesthouse. The rooms have new beds and each guest can borrow a lovely terry-toweling bathrobe for their stay. You will sleep well!

On the ground floor is a dining room with a 'bar', meeting room, sauna and shower / toilet. Through the windows, you can see the horse pastures and "heitta pot" that is perfect for talking and relaxing in after riding. ("Heitta pot" is Icelandic and means "warm pool" - about 39 degrees centigrade/ 102 F).
