Spain, Costa Brava - Mountains and the Sea
This is one of our most popular trail rides that takes you up into the Catalan Pyrenees and down to the Mediterranean.
You ride through stunning scenery in the Alt Empordà with its Mediterranean forests, beautiful coastline and sandy beaches.
You will discover small medieval villages such a Bascara or Crespia with their cobbled streets and narrow alleys. You will ride through pine and cork tree forest filled with aromatic herbs and arrive at the foot of the Pyrenees, where the mountains meet the sea. You continue through Alvera with its olive groves and vineyards - genuine natural beauty. You leave the mountains behind you and the rolling plains await and the long Bay of Roses offers a chance of a beach gallop! You continue along the coast, enjoying the sea, the rocks and the wind, and then return to the riding center passing through meadows and orchards.
The riding is at a lively pace with many trotting and galloping opportunities. You will ride about 5 -7 hours / day for 6 days.
Your luggage is transported by car.

Day 1: Arrival
You will be met at the airport and driven to the riding center (about 2 hours). During the welcome dinner you can go through the week's program and discuss the type of horse that everyone wants.
Day 2: Trail Ride begins
You start your ride from the riding center and visit a country that consists of lots of small traditional villages and many pine and oak forests. On the first day, you are given the opportunity to adjust your equipment and get to know the horses and your guide. There will be alternating trotting and galloping until you arrive at Pontos, at the “Tower of the Angel" for lunch. Later you proceed your journey to arrive at Vilanant. Once there, you will enjoy your stay in an old estate that belongs to the Count of Rocaberti.
Day 3: In the mountains
Today you head off on your mountain adventure in the Pyrenees. But first, a long day in the saddle with lots of galloping. The ride goes through a region with lots of old vineyards, olive groves and rustic buildings. You follow an old path along the Muga River. Near the river you will have a picnic lunch and, if the weather permits, you can take a refreshing dip. In the afternoon, you ride further into the mountains, passing many small villages and arrive at Cantallops, located on the Mediterranean Pyrenees. There, in one of the best hotels in the area you will be welcomed with dinner and stay overnight.
Day 4: Over the Pyrenees
The ride takes you across the Mediterranean Pyrenees - where the mountains meet the sea - with its spectacular landscape that at each step displays the beauty of Ampurdan. Today, the tempo will be a bit slower with more trail riding as you pass over the mountains until you see the ocean again. You will pass Recasens Castle an impressive fortress from the twelfth century, which has been carefully renovated over the years. On top of the mountain, you eat a picnic and then continue down and enjoy a beautiful view over the coast of Cabo de Creus. You spend the night in a small hotel with traditional architecture.
Day 5: Alt Ermpordà
Today you will leave the mountains and head in the direction of the beach to the beautiful plain of Ampurdan. You gallop through vineyards and olive groves, passing small towns such as Garriguella, Perelada and Vilanova de la Muga. You stop for a picnic lunch at, a small town that was once the capital of Ampurdan. You can discover Castello de Empuries’s medieval history in the town square and throughout the city. In the afternoon, there will be fast gallops to Mas de Mar, an old beach house in Sant Pere Pescador.
Day 6: The beach
You arrive at the beach and the horses will stretch out for a gallop. Later, you continue to La Escala and Macizo of Montgri, a mountainous area that separates Alt Ampurdan from the. A rocky reef sinking into the Mediterranean Sea creates a spectacular landscape, with a wide horizon that stretches across the Mediterranean. Due to the protection provided Baix Ampurdan there is a range of important fauna growing in this landscape. You get a small gourmet picnic on top of the rocky reef where you have a wonderful view over the Rosas Bay. You then come to the town of L'Estartit where you stay overnight.
Day 7: Baix Emporda
Today you return to the riding center. You will pass orchards in the Ter Region and follows the river - a lowland that offers exciting galloping opportunities. This is a quiet area where nothing disturbs the natural silence. As you ride through the narrow streets of the small villages, the only thing you hear is the sound of your horse's hooves. You arrive at the equestrian center for lunch and a traditional meal you. You can then relax, hang out and swap memories from the week before a farewell dinner in the evening.
Day 8: Goodbye
After breakfast you will leave the riding center with many wonderful memories. Arrival at the airport at 11.30 am.
